Outside the research lab

When I’m not doing physics education research, I do lots of non-physics things! I love golfing, even though I’m not particularly good at it. The photo above is me playing golf in New Hampshire. Fun fact: I golf and swing a baseball bat left-handed but I write and throw right-handed.
Speaking of baseball, I’m a huge Yankees fan and try to make it to a couple games each year. I also love the Denver Broncos – and have since well before Peyton Manning. I lived through Brian Griese, Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, and Tim Tebow before that… Unfortunately, living in Rochester makes it difficult to get to many Broncos games unless they happen to be in Buffalo playing the Bills. I also support Manchester United and watch a lot of EPL.
I love photography, although I don’t get out with my camera as much as I used to. Before grad school I worked as a photographer for my hometown newspaper and my college’s communications department, so I was taking pictures almost every day for several years! You can see some of my pictures below, or visit my photography website, mikeverostekphotography.com to see many more.

I’m also a big fan of audiobooks and am usually listening to either a crime fiction story (e.g., Michael Connelly, Lee Child, etc.) or some kind of non-fiction (biographies, history). I play a lot of video games too. Some of my favorite games are Bioshock, Fallout 3, Metal Gear Solid, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater – mostly because it’s one of very few games I’m actually good at. I also love music, and you can get a sense of some of my favorite artists/genres in the Spotify playlist below:
